2020 - 2021
Zach Lang
Zach Lang’s previous connections to the Flint local art scene include many album covers and promotional artworks for Big Donut as well as promotional posters for Seth Addison’s monthly standup comedy night at Soggy Bottom Bar. His self-published works include a zine about Billy Zane called Billy Zine and a western composite novel called Rodeo Man. Lang is currently working on a comic book and hopes to publish more zines in the future.
Matthew Osmon
Matthew Osmon was born in Flint, Michigan. His fine art studio practice is focused on drawing, watercolor and screen-printing. He also works as a freelance graphic designer focusing mainly on logo design and print media. He is the co-artistic director of Fly-Town Puppet Theatre and Puppet Theatre Sisu. Matthew is currently teaching fine art, design, photography, digital art, puppet making and video production full time at Mott Middle College High School. He is a lecturer at U of M - Flint and is the flat stock screen print guy at Factory Two. In addition he teaches various combinations of puppet making, painting, drawing, digital manipulation, portfolio development and theater make-up part time at the Flint Institute of Arts. Matthew earned a BA(2000) in Visual Art and Theater Design from Columbia College Chicago and an MA(2012) in Technology in Education from the University of Michigan-Flint.
Emily Legleitner
Emily Legleitner is a full time studio artist based in Flint, MI. She works within the expanded fields of print media, fibers, and small metals. Emily’s printed imagery is informed by lens-based inquiry, performance, and the body. Often, Emily uses portraiture to share auto-biographical narratives and self-reflections. She received a BFA in Studio Art from Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan and is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Alberta. Her work has garnered critical acclaim throughout the Midwest and East Coast, winning the 2021 Prints Exhibition first prize at Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Gallery, Best of Show in the 2020 Body Building: Art of the Human Figure Exhibition at the Indianapolis Art Center, and Best of Show in the 2019 Michigan Greater Artists Exhibition at Midland Center for the Arts, among other awards. Her work has exhibited in numerous acclaimed print shows and been published in the London based print journal Printmaking Today (2018). Emily was an artist in residence at the Icelandic Textile Center (Blönduós, Iceland) in 2019. She has upcoming solo exhibitions at Sager Braudis Gallery (Columbia, MO) in August 2021, at Buckham Gallery (Flint, MI) in December 2021, and at BWAC (Brooklyn, NY) in July 2022.
Janice McCoy
Janice McCoy is a visual artist with interests in printmaking, drawing and painting. Her paintings and prints have been exhibited across the state of Michigan. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan-Flint, having earned degrees in Visual Arts Education (BS 2018) and General Studio Art (BFA 2018). Janice works at MW Gallery as the Gallery Assistant & Programs Coordinator for the Mott-Warsh Collection, one of the largest private fine art collections of art of the African diaspora in the United States. Additionally, she is an artist collaborator with the Buckham Fine Arts Project, where she also serves as Vice President on the Board of Directors for Buckham Gallery. In addition, Janice also teaches part-time at the Art School at the Flint Institute of the Arts. Janice is from Leonard, MI and currently lives in the College Cultural neighborhood of Flint with her partner, pets and plants.
2021 - 2022
Amanda Edwards
Amanda Edwards is an illustration artist who lives near, and works in Flint, Michigan. Her work relies heavily on stylized figures, clean lines, and bold color palettes to tell a story or invoke a feeling within her audience. Amanda’s work is a playful, often humorous, take on the human experience. Her work filters mature themes through a more curious, innocent lens with the goal of connecting us to our child-like selves.
Nancy Pennell
Nancy Pennell is a printmaker and painter whose work spans forty years. Her artwork stems from lifelong observations in the natural world and its symbiotic relationships from which she derives her visual vocabulary. She has produced drawings, paintings, monotypes, intaglio prints, solar prints, and waterless lithographs, including various combinations, as well as handmade books. She now works mainly with colorful monotypes, which include some printed on both sides of the Japanese paper. She has taught workshops at Michigan State University, where she received a BFA, and at Mott Community College, where she continues to produce her work. She also has taught many art classes in various media for twenty-five years in the mid-Michigan area.
Pennell has shown her work in a number of galleries throughout the midwest, winning awards in several competitions including first place, purchase, and one person show awards at the Saginaw Art Museum, and other printmaking awards in Michigan. She is affiliated with Buckham Gallery, the Blue Heron Gallery, and Flint Artists’ Market. Her work can be found in many private and public collections throughout the United States including Delta College, Mott Community College, and McLaren Hospital. Nancy Pennell is now living and working in the countryside outside of Flint, Michigan.
Brian Spolans
Brian Spolans is an artist and instructor based in Southeast Michigan. His work has been exhibited at 500X Gallery in Dallas, Paradigm Gallery in Philadelphia, Muskegon Museum of Art, International Print Center of New York, and Published in New American Paintings, Fresh Paint and Create Magazine. He has co-curated the exhibition “Post Apocalypse” at Gallery Project in Ann Arbor, and “Non-Text,” at Eastern Michigan University where he teaches printmaking.
Chris Waters
Christine Waters is the former Associate Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Acting Chair, Program of Art and Art History, University of Michigan-Flint, Flint, Michigan. Her Academic Credentials include Master of Fine Art-Painting, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Master of Art-Painting, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Bachelor of Science-Art, University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition, she has participated in many Workshops/Institutes, University Service, Committee work, and related activities.
