Buckham (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating as
Buckham Gallery and Buckham Fine Arts Project) needs your help.

The Buckham Fine Arts Project was founded in 1984 by a group of Flint-area artists, who sought to fulfill the city’s need for a local exhibition and performance venue that would direct its creative attention to presenting ambitious work. After the inception of its cooperative membership, Buckham Gallery mounted its first exhibition in May of 1984.

39 years later we are still committed to our vision to support and nurture artists, build community and inclusivity, while challenging our audience to engage with art in new ways. We grow in this vision with programing such as:
  • Contemporary Art Exhibitions, in depth artist conversations, and shipping support for exhibiting artists
  • Buckham at Karmanos
  • Writer In Residence
  • Cider & Slides events
  • On Screen
  • Student Internships
  • Flint’s Emerging Artist Fellowship with University of Michigan- Flint
  • Plus community favorites like Flint’s ARTWALK and Buckham’s B.Y.O.C.

Through these programs, Buckham acts as a thoughtful voice that strives to inspire local art-lovers and to provoke artists, thinkers, and collectors from outside the area to engage with Flint. We need your help to fulfill our vision for our 40th Anniversary Season!

Through our Arts Collective of 33 imaginative artists and professionals, Board of Directors and dedicated staff, we are inspired to serve our community and the artists we feature. With your support, we will be able to continue better than ever.

"At Buckham we strive to deliver high quality, thought provoking, beautiful, provocative and powerful contemporary art to our Flint community. This provides opportunities to reflect on ourselves, our community, our culture and the many issues that are important to us and the world. It is part of a crucial cultural dialogue. That is why it is so vital that we uplift, show up and support contemporary visual art and artists in this city. "
-Matthew Osmon, Buckham Artist Collaborator and Board Member

Buckham Gallery contributes to the cultural landscape in our region by exhibiting innovative, contemporary art and by providing our community with opportunities to deeply engage with those sometimes challenging exhibitions through accessible programming and enlightening presentations. "The Buckham Fine Arts Project is a vibrant part of the cultural dialogue in Genesee County and has been for the past nearly 40 years. When I first moved to Flint, I heard from other artists and community members that Buckham was the place to see great art-- things that you couldn't see at other galleries and museums. I made a point to go and see their shows each month, and years later I was thrilled to become involved with the organization. That delight and wonder that I felt initially, where each month I could go and discover something different that would challenge me, inspire me, or push me to confront some sort of beautiful or terrible truth, is still there. I tell anyone who will listen that Buckham Gallery is the place to see excellent art, whether it's from regionally or nationally recognized artists, and each exhibit that we present still reinforces that for me. I believe that this is an incredible resource for the Flint community and absolutely necessary for our cultural landscape."
-Janice McCoy,
Buckham Artist Collaborator and Board Vice President

"Buckham has built its reputation over the past four decades as the premier contemporary arts institution in downtown Flint. Despite major changes in the community between when it was founded and today, the gallery continues to enrich the cultural life of its hometown by bringing challenging works and artist interviews to residents to drive a more diverse and diffuse sense of artistic appreciation."
-Nic Custer,
Buckham Artist Collaborator and Board President
