BFAP’s 40th Anniversary Guest Writer is Xzavier V. Simon
Buckham Fine Arts Project launched its Writer In Residence project in early 2021 to engage contemporary literary arts and Flint’s Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) community. Now entering its 40th Anniversary Season, Buckham is pleased to announce the selection of its fourth Writer, Jenifer Fernandes Veloso, and Guest Writer, Xzavier V. Simon.

This 2023 - 2024 season presents three artists selected from 2022’s “BIPOC Is The Theme!” national juried exhibition whose awards include future exhibitions and honoraria in support of Buckham’s commitment to building relationships with BIPOC artists. In addition to the resident writer, Buckham chose a Guest Writer, Xzavier V. Simon, to engage with and respond to the solo shows of Kiara Aileen Machado, Ariana Vaeth, and Gerardo Castro. Guest Writer Simon brings a Black Queer-eye perspective to his introspective responses to these artists. Simon also joins the Buckham Arts Collective with a complimentary Artist Collaborator membership.
ABOUT THE GUEST ARTIST : XZAVIER V. SIMON
Native to the Beecher community, Xzavier V. Simon is a self-published author, teacher, journalist, creative entrepreneur, and spiritualist. His hobbies and interests are African spirituality & cosmology, meditation, and the art of self-healing. In addition, he enjoys video games, watching anime, cooking, and is an avid Asian music listener.
You can find him exploring the lives of queer melanated people through his publication, The Modern Queer Magazine, and writing about Flint, Michigan’s music, business, and creative scene featured on Flintside.com. These two experiences resulted in him creating The Modern Queer Podcast, available to listen on Spotify and Apple Podcast and watch on Youtube.

Buckham Fine Arts Project's Writer In Residence and Guest Writer will receive honoraria and complimentary Buckham Artist Collaborator memberships for their participation, exemplifying BFAP’s commitment to supporting artists and contemporary arts in its community.
The 2023 - 2024 residency cycle will culminate with the compilation of Veloso’s writings and images from Buckham’s exhibitions along with Simon’s compositions into a publication. More details will be available in Fall 2024.
