Join us for the 6th annual Smallidge Lecture Saturday, November 11 at 12 PM. This year’s guest speaker is Teresa Dunn.
Teresa Dunn is a Mexican American artist raised in rural Southern Illinois. Her identity, life, and art are influenced by her racial and cultural heritages and the complexities of being a brown woman in the Midwest. She is a three-time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Fellowship, was a Jacob K Javits Fellow, and was recently awarded grants from the Puffin Foundation Ltd and the Sustainable Arts Foundation. Recent group exhibitions include at National Arts Club and The Painting Center both in New York, “Disrupted Realism” featuring Anne Harris, juried by John Seed, at Buckham Gallery, for which she was awarded second prize. Notably Dunn’s work is included in the forthcoming book by John Seed More Disruption: Representation in Flux from Schiffer Publishing. Dunn’s work is in collections including the Dennos Museum Center, the Zillman Art Museum, Kinsey Institute, Venice Baroque Orchestra, and Wright State University Art Galleries. Teresa Dunn is Professor of Painting and Drawing at Michigan State University in East Lansing where she has taught since 2006. Dunn’s most recent body of work “US” has been shown in solo exhibitions at The Dennos Museum, First Street Gallery, and will be on view at Buckham Gallery November 10 - December 2, 2023. This annual event is funded by the Smallidge Fund For The Arts. The Smallidge Family Fund for the Arts was established in 2015 to honor the memory of Bernice Smallidge and her passion for the arts and the arts community in the Flint area. This perpetual restricted fund is maintained by the continual donations of family members and friends. The endowment funds The Annual Smallidge Family Lecture, a yearly arts-related talk hosted by Buckham Gallery. Donations to the Smallidge Fund for the Arts are tax-deductible. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend. The gallery will open at 11:30AM and the lecture will begin at 12PM. Refreshments will be provided. |
