Winter Exhibitions will be on view at Buckham Gallery from January 19 - February 10, 2024. Flint's Artwalk to be held on Friday, February 9 from 6 - 9 PM. Artist Talk with Ariana Vaeth in the Gallery, February 10 at 2 PM.
Ariana Vaeth | High Profile
Painterly images in High Profile emphasize the boundaries that delineate where safety thrives, these contexts highlighting an activity or person of interest: we gaze at them as they engage in more pressing matters. Through selective cropping, hiding faces, and utilizing the silhouetted profile to spotlight the focus of the subject's attention, Ariana Vaeth underlines their social ponderings and tendings while maintaining a vital semblance of their privacy.
Ariana Vaeth is the second of three artists selected from 2022’s BIPOC Is The Theme! for future exhibition in 2023-2024’s anniversary season. The 2022 exhibition was conceived in collaboration with Tyana J. Buie. Vaeth is a Baltimore-raised artist living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She received her undergraduate degree from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Her museum history includes solo exhibitions in Door County, Wisconsin at the Miller Art Museum and in Milwaukee at the Lynden and the Haggerty Museums of Art.
Press Play | National Juried Exhibition
Press Play, national juried exhibition, explores the varieties of printmaking methods and media. Printmaking holds profound significance as a cornerstone of visual culture and communication. Emerging from ancient civilizations, such as China and Egypt, and later revolutionizing the world with inventions like Johannes Gutenberg's moveable type printing press in the 15th century, printmaking enabled the unprecedented widespread accress to knowledge, ideas, and images.
Juror Janice McCoy reflected: "I ultimately chose works that together I felt represented a wide variety of print techniques, used them in an unusual or novel way, or made connections between traditional and contemporary ideas in a way that I felt was important."
Selected Artists: Cassidy Barnett, Grant M Brownlow, Nina Cambron, Marika Arellano Christofides, Craig V Fisher, Mara Jevera Fulmer, Steve Garst, Hank Mattson, Donald Medley, Paloma Núñez-Regueiro, Jennifer Scheuer, Terry Schupbach-Gordon, Valerie Syposz, and Katherine Westbrook
