Paid Programming: An Original Play written by Jen Sikora

7:30 p.m. Friday & Saturday, Sept. 17 - 18 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19

A play written by Jen Sikora, this social satire employs infomercials as a theatrical device to explore the complexities of gender stereotypes in American society. Performances are on Friday, September 17 and Saturday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. A 2 p.m. Sunday matinee is being shown on September 19. General admission is $5 and will serve as a fundraiser for Buckham Gallery's 2010-2011 exhibition season.

 

Rouge Opening Reception

6 - 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8

The Rouge exhibition opens during the Second Friday Artwalk, in conjunction with the Greater Flint Arts Council and other local arts venues. The reception is completely free to the public, and refreshments will be in part provided by The Lunch Studio.

 

Chocolate Tasting Fundraiser & Silent Auction

6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15

PFLAG and Buckham Gallery join forces for this LGBT-themed benefit. The artwork from the Rouge exhibition, Buckham Gallery merchandise, and beverages will be for sale to raise funds for the Buckham Fine Arts Project. PFLAG’s fundraising will be achieved through a silent auction of LGBT-themed or LGBT-artist-created artwork, as well as the sale of chocolate treats. Cupcakes, a chocolate fountain with fresh fruit, and other chocolate goodies will be available for a small fee – some of which will be provided by locally- or nationally-known dessert venues! Admission is $10.

 

This is the Remix Performance Event

6 - 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23

This is the Remix is an event combining music and art; three-time Addy award winner, James Thigpen, will be displaying his album cover art, while music producer Brandon Corder will provide an exclusive soundtrack for the event. General admission is $5.

 

Movie Night, High Art

8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29

Buckham Gallery will be showing High Art. In High Art, a young female intern at a small magazine company becomes involved with a drug-addicted lesbian photographer. Both women seek to exploit each other for their respective careers, while slowly falling in love. This film is Rated R, and demands the usual parental advisories. Admission is a good-will donation, and it is recommended that patrons bring their own seating. Concessions and Buckham Gallery merchandise will be available for purchase.

 

Performance Block (ArtWorks Exhibition)

November 3 – 6, 2010

During this period, Buckham Gallery will be displaying an art exhibition featuring the art of youths involved in the ArtWorks program. Coordinated by the Shelter of Flint, ArtWorks is in part made possible by partnerships with the YWCA, REACH, LINK Community Arts, and Raise It Up! Youth Arts & Awareness. Regular gallery hours will be held at this time, and the exhibition will be closed with a Reception. Further details to be announced.

 

Relief Opening Reception

6 - 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12

The Relief exhibition opens during the Second Friday Artwalk, in conjunction with the Greater Flint Arts Council and other local arts venues. The reception is completely free to the public, and refreshments will be in part provided by The Lunch Studio.

 

Movie Night, Memoirs of a Geisha

8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19

Buckham Gallery will be showing Memoirs of a Geisha. In Memoirs of a Geisha, when 9-year old Chiyo is sold to a Kyoto geisha house, she endures harsh treatment from the owners and the haughty head geisha, Hatsumomo. Chiyo blooms in her role as a geisha, but World War II threatens to change her privileged life forever. This film is Rated PG-13, and demands the usual parental advisories. Admission is a good-will donation, and it is recommended that patrons bring their own seating. Concessions and Buckham Gallery merchandise will be available for purchase.

 

Arlow Xan & Maria Rose Concert

6 - 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20

Local musical acts Arlow Xan and Maria Rose will be performing at Buckham Gallery! Buckham Gallery merchandise and concessions will be available for purchase. Further details to be announced.

 

Building Models with Kevin Dzurak

noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27

Learn how to build models at this workshop! Buckham Gallery hosts artist and set designer Kevin Dzurak, who will guide registered guests through the process of building both small relief and basic theatrical set models. Making Ornaments with Buckham Gallery!

noon to 3 p.m. Saturday Dec. 11

Create your own Holiday ornaments with the staff and artists of Buckham Gallery! This workshop invites people of all ages to fashion their own ornaments for the holiday season. Registration is required, with a fee of $15.00 per one adult and one child. Register by Saturday, December 4 for a $5.00 discount. Supplies to decorate two ornaments, per registration, will be provided by the gallery. For more details, contact Buckham Gallery by phone or e-mail.

 

Movie Night, The Polar Express

8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17

Buckham Gallery will be showing The Polar Express. In The Polar Express, a warm-hearted computer-animated tale inspired by Chris Van Allsburg’s award-winning children’s book, a young boy’s faith in the holiday spirit is revived after he makes his way by train to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. This film is Rated G. Admission is a good-will donation, and it is recommended that patrons bring their own seating. Concessions and Buckham Gallery merchandise will be available for purchase.
