Mandalas Series Instead of throwing away postcards after the event date has passed I started collecting them with the idea of reuse and collage. The idea developed into creating mandalas. Mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol representing the universe. Mandala has become a generic term for any diagram, chart, or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically. Often used as an aid for meditation…..I’m going for enlightenment. It’s amazing to me as I work, I can go to this happy zen like state when I’m creating and especially when I’m working on the mandalas.
Suspended from the ceiling from the cord the rows of Mandalas slowly spin and move intermittently from breezes which provide visual and kinetic stimulation. They are patterns which can be seen from a distance but upon much closer inspection you see the fine details and it may be much different than what you thought it was because of how I’ve used the images and shapes I’ve cut out of the postcard. I love how I can change the design pattern by changing the orientation of the card and the spacing and way that I glue the pieces together.
