Terra Lockhart | We Will Fluoresce Together Statement: I love celebrating all the wonders that can be found in our world and everyday life - in the comfortable and in the uncanny. My current work comes from an intense love for all living things and the dire need to express the importance of compassion, caring for each other, embracing local community and not just preserving but helping our natural environment flourish. To me, it seems so evidential that all these things are closely and intricately connected. Through the use of interactive sculpture meant to bring small moments of joy to others, and the creation of altars honoring our native wildlife (that include the bones of these animals found deceased on my property, which I lovingly and gently cleaned with care), among other pieces, I hope to expose the connectedness of all beings and the importance of showing compassion, love and appreciation for each other. The work expresses these ideas through my personal lens of bright colors, use of neon el wire, gradients and imagery of hands - all things very dear to me.

Artist Bio: Terra Lockhart is an artist living near Flint, Michigan, where she was born and raised. She is constantly working in new mediums, often learning a completely new skill set, process or material with each project alongside the mediums she is familiar with to create mixed media sculptures and assemblages. Her work often dances the edge between the fantastical, the strange, and real life occurrences. She is inspired by the things she finds most fascinating about flora and fauna, the human form and mind, the connection between all beings, the nostalgia of neon, and the uncanny.
