In 1984, Buckham Gallery opened as an experimental exhibition space in downtown Flint. Our founders committed to presenting innovative contemporary art, both visual and performing, of the highest quality and standard. In 2020, Buckham continues that proud tradition by offering diverse exhibitions featuring local, national and international artists, a print exchange, artist talks, community outreach partnerships with area nonprofits, new events to engage artists such as Cider & Slides, and Eros & Thanatos, a national juried exhibition. In November, Michele Leclaire, former Exhibition Director, was hired as Executive Director to ensure Buckham Gallery’s continued success. Lynn Penning resigned as Executive Director after serving the gallery for three years and ensuring its successful transition to its new home across Second Street.
Despite temporarily closing in March due to COVID-19 restrictions, Buckham Gallery continued to provide programming virtually on the website and through social media with the Founders Feature, Studio as Self Portrait project, and Selvage- an online exhibition. Upon reopening the physical gallery in July, Buckham resumed normal business hours and continues to offer online viewing rooms and virtual artist talks for a safer experience for patrons and staff.
With your support, Buckham’s exhibitions will continue to reach new generations of area residents. In 2019, we hosted over 7300 guests, reaching a diverse audience.
