How Buckham Works-
When an artist is selected for a solo exhibition their body of work is chosen, however we encourage artists to select the individual works that best represent their statement. This is especially important when the season is scheduled far in advance and new work is created.
Each artist will have a separate space in the gallery. We use our movable wall to create and recreate the space as needed for each presentation. This does make it difficult to provide a layout, however we encourage artists to view a few of the frequently used layouts on the website or to look at the online viewing rooms of past exhibitions. Typically an artist can expect an average of 50 to 60 linear feet of wall space.
Exhibitions are installed according to professional standards and are thoughtfully laid out to present the work in the most exciting and stimulating way. Buckham seeks new ways to make accessible challenging visual presentations, drawing viewers in for a deeper and sometimes unexpected experience with art.
This does mean gallery staff will decide on exhibition space, layout and hang or install the work. Once all the work is in the gallery, we often find it necessary to change the space to best suit the artworks. It is our goal to present the artists in a way that shows the work and in the best light possible.
Artists are invited to share layout or sequencing for their works as relates to narrative.
