FEVER VESSELS Opens Friday, October 11th, at Buckham Gallery
FEVER VESSELS is an invitational exhibition that brings together the work of seven painters who use the human form as point of departure, creating images that transcend mere representation. The exhibition features Alana Bograd, David Campbell, Arcenio Martin Campos, Elliot Clausen, Donovan Entrekin, Jenny Kanzler, and Catherine Mulligan.
Art begins with the representation of human beings by human beings. From the anthropomorphic flickers on cave walls, to the first stick figures drawn by children, to life drawing classes during the first year of art school. Images of human beings are deployed across the history of Western Art as records, as artifacts, as actors in the historical pictures of our culture. Visionary artists also use the human image as a vehicle for the expression of other, less concrete, ideas.
“The human form is a familiar vessel into which we pour, and from which we share thoughts, feelings, and perceptions that transcend simple representation,” said Donovan Entrekin, Buckham member and Flint artist featured in FEVER VESSELS.
The artists included in FEVER VESSELS employ the human form in pictures that assemble new realities; where the estranged familiar presents an irreconcilable dilemma; where individual figural components begin to come together, trying to complete themselves and come into existence; that exhibit a deeper and more mysterious undercurrent, rather than a nature of replication; and through classical nudes that drop the façade of chastity and allow other, darker ideas of the body and identity to emerge.
Featured artists include: Alana Bograd, David Campbell, Arcenio Martin Campos, Elliot Clausen, Donovan Entrekin, Jenny Kanzler, and Catherine Mulligan.
“FEVER VESSELS is truly an exciting exhibition. The featured artists could be called “painter’s painters” referring to the mastery of skills and use of material that excites other artists. However the work presented is accessible to everyone and delightful to behold. You will want to experience FEVER VESSELS,” said Michele Leclaire, Exhibition Director, Buckham Gallery.
FEVER VESSELS opens during Flint’s monthly Art Walk, Friday, October 11 and runs through Saturday, November 2, 2019.
