Buckham Gallery is pleased to announce Eros & Thanatos, a national juried exhibition established to explore the Greek words for Love and Death. Eros, Greek god of love and sex, and Thanatos, the personification of death, have been used throughout western culture to symbolize the driving forces of life, love, sexuality and creativity as well as acknowledging our own mortality. This exhibition will open on Valentine’s Day, February 14, and run through March 7, 2020.
Eros & Thanatos will feature 47 artists from 24 different states, who explore the concepts of Love and Death. Works were selected by juror, Ed Fraga. Mr. Fraga is an esteemed Detroit based artist, a recipient of an Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Fellowship, a Kresge Artist Fellowship, and a Bellagio Center Rockefeller Foundation residency. Fraga exhibits internationally and is included in many public collections including: Cranbrook Art Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Flint Institute of Arts, and Wayne State University. Three works of art exemplifying the theme of Eros & Thanatos and are of exceptional quality will be awarded prizes in the amounts of $1,000, $500, and $250. Prizes will be announced at 5:45 PM on February 14th. Join us for Flint’s Art Walk, February 14, 6 - 9PM.
