Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey and share some insight into your BAC experience. The survey was live from July 9 through July 22, 2024. Participation included 19 out of approximately 37 members, including Artist Collaborators (Literary and Visual) and Sustaining members. The overall responses were very positive. As promised, here is the collected data for you to review.
BAC: Member Satisfaction Survey Results
What (if any) were the positive aspects of your experiences?
Community
Being able to talk with the artists that are showing.
Quality art with well thought out collections
Artist support and community outreach
Excellent work, supportive community and atmosphere.
I really love getting to know Michele, Katie, and the artists and working the Art Walk events. I've thoroughly enjoyed the emerging literary collaborations organized by Roy Richard -- they have been nourishing. I really appreciate getting to know the visual artists and hope for more collaborations with them.
Meeting many of the exhibiting artists!
Having a like minded group of contemporary artists working together is invaluable. Being exposed to incredible works from around the world is also a huge benefit. Selling work is also a big benefit. Having a website for the space and a house for the collective is an underrated benefit. Events are always fruitful and full of conversation and connectedness.
Good group of people to share similar interests with.
Buckham offers high-quality art in a beautiful setting. Buckham members and staff are always caring and professional.
being part of a creative community
Being a member has gotten me more involved in the art community in Flint which I appreciate. I’ve met a lot of great people and have felt welcomed.
Good art, good venue, good friends.
Always felt like a welcoming environment
Quality and diversity of exhibitions. Well organized, clean, thoughtful space. Well organized events.
I like meeting and talking to artists from outside of Flint.
I alway feel that I benefit both personally and artistically from the programming.
I love the intersection of camaraderie and creative rigor; it is nice to have a creative family in my hometown!
Buckham is very open and accessible.
What (if any) were the negative aspects of your experiences?
Clear communication
None that I can think of.

None
I don't have any
It has been almost universally pleasurable. Sometimes I can't participate due to family interferences, but when I do it is a welcome addition to my life, both personally and creatively.
None
Having people around that dont want to be a part of a real collective or that dont make art and/or dont want to talk about their practice and art making and how that applies to their lives. Being pulled in too many directions and not having the time or bandwidth to devote to Buckham. Annoying people that dont have any idea what we are doing and continue to try to make Buckham something that it is not nor should it be.
None, really.
None.

Sometimes it feels like volunteer opportunities fill up very quickly when it comes to art walk and it doesn’t feel as though there are many opportunities outside of those slots to volunteer.

A small thing, but at events there is kind of a bottle neck near the entrance, and I'm always worried about colliding with the art or a person and causing some damage!
NA
Are there other ways that you would like to participate?
I can’t think of any at the moment.
Art set up and take down

I hope maybe there will be some collaborations between the visual artists and literary artist members next year.
I am interested in joining the exhibition committee ()
I would like to help jury a show at some point or co-jury a show
Yes, it would be nice to have more opportunities to help set up and tear down exhibitions.
More members only opportunities... mixers, critiques, studio visits, holiday party
My phase of life -- three clients, two kids, and an obnoxiously long list of household responsibilities -- makes it difficult to attend a lot of events in person; sometimes there are conflicts and other times I'm just too tired! Remote volunteer opportunities might give me a chance to get more involved.
Are there certain opportunities that you would like to see more often?
Artist talks. But I know that can be hard to schedule.
More artist talks
I've enjoyed seeing the retrospectives of long standing members. I wouldn't mind seeing more.
See above.
opportunities to hang with artists and talk art and look at work in progress
I would personally like to see some events on days different than Friday/Saturday
No
More opportunities to engage with other members
Group critiques, cider and slides
I really enjoy the social opportunities; one of the nice things about art walk is the unstructued conversation and artwork existing side by side.
What additional ways can staff support you?

From the keyboard of Michele:
Friends, I am honored to lead this wonderful collective and am proud of our accomplishments through Buckham Fine Arts Project. Again, thank you for taking the time to respond to the survey or simply review the responses of your fellow BAC family.
We have much work ahead of us to ensure another 40 years, but our future is bright. I hope you will stand with us as we recommit to our role as a community anchor and good neighbor, as we think about our space, programming and their role in the community, as well as we work to grow our safety nets and ability to provide support to the artists engaged with our programming and community.
Thank you for being a friend and member of the Buckham Arts Collective!
