April 03, 2012

FLINT, MI–Buckham Gallery artist member John Dempsey will be part of the group show “Being There” at Buckham Gallery and his work will showcase a theme that should be familiar to people to Flint.

His work is inspired by post-industrial societies  like Flint or his hometown of Detroit.

“Born and raised in Detroit and having worked on the auto assembly lines, John has a strong respect for American manufacturing,” a recent press release said of Dempsey.

Dempsey usually works with acrylic and water colors, but is using a new technique for the upcoming display by etching images on a variety of surfaces with a special laser. The images include the interiors of auto factories. His acrylic work will also be on display, which sometimes has objects like tire rubber and glass beads worked into it.

The show also features work by Thomas Berding of East Lansing, Michael May of Dublin, OH, Alan Watson of Hazel Park and Rachel Wolfson of Monmouth, OR.

The show runs April 13 through May 5, with an artists’ opening reception during Art Walk on April 13 from 6pm-9pm. Buckham Gallery is located at 134 ½ West Second Street in downtown Flint.
