Buckham Fine Arts Project
The Buckham Fine Arts Project was founded
in late 1983 and early 1984 by a group of Flint area artists
who saw the need for an exhibition and performance venue
in Flint that would direct its creative attention to presenting
ambitious work on a major scale for the arts public. The
Gallery’s
purpose then, as now, was to offer contemporary arts in all
forms for the benefit of the Flint and Mid-Michigan Are and
to enrich and enhance cultural life by presenting works and
concepts that are not being provided by other organizations
in the area.
Buckham mounted its first exhibition in
May of 1984. In the ensuing years, well over tow hundred
fifth exhibitions of visual art and a very substantial number
of poetry readings, performance art events and dance, music
and film presentation have been offered to the Flint area
and Mid-Michigan audiences.
Buckham has been supported since its founding
by the considerable efforts of its artist and associate members
and by community volunteers as well through member dues,
individual and corporate contributions, and fund raising
efforts and by means of other gifts and grants. |
